Wedding Dresses
Wedding dress is one the most important dresses in the world.
Ancient Egyptians accepted a marriage as a form of legitimate relationship. Wedding dress was knitted, made from linen. In ancient Greece wedding dress had “Hercules knot” that bridegroom needed to untie during wedding ceremony. Knot was in white color - it was a symbol for joy.
Bride wore a wedding dress only once. It wasn't case in Victorian era and during Middle Ages. Veil was in color of flame and it was the most symbolic detail on the wedding dress. The word nuptial is connected with the word “nubo” that means “I am covering myself”. The head was completely covered by veil. It was preferable to wear veil in the same color as shoes. Veil was transparent and long. In Ancient Rome bride also had veil made from fragrant flowers. Wedding dress was contained from two parts.
At the beginning of the fourteenth century wedding dress was made from silk, decorated with gold belt. Gold belt was also decorated with precious stones. The bride also wore a ring as a symbol of eternal love and brooch as a reflection of innocence.
Princess Philippa wore topcoat made from silk at her wedding in 1406. One of the most beautiful wedding dresses was worn by queen Victoria in 1840.
From 1837 to 1901 wedding dresses were made in white color, but also in ivory and beige color. These wedding dresses were very simply. The vail had always a special role. During industrial Revolution brides wore pink or green wedding dresses, but also they wore dresses in black color. It wasn't strange. For example, if she had to marry a widower she needed to wear a black wedding dress.
During twenties
The same trend continued to grow during twenties. Coco Chanel presented her collection of wedding dresses. These wedding dresses were pure white. Fashion designers carefully followed Holywood's trend.
During thirties
World crisis happened during thirties so women had to wear their best dresses. During thirties women were buying hair ornament that were similar to Princess Marina' s tiara.
During fifties
The most famous wedding was wedding of Grace Kellly and Prince Rainier of Monaco. All girls wanted to have such wedding dress made from lace. The film “Father Of The Bride” also had influence on women's choice.
During sixties and seventies
Brides wore wedding dresses in lemon yellow color, light pink or even green. Brides wore daisies in hair. Beach wedding were also very popular.
During eighties
edding of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Lady Diana was the most famous wedding. Her wedding dress was decorated with beads. Every woman wanted such wedding dress.
